A man who police identified as Isaiah Marks of ‘C’ Field, Sophia was shot dead early this morning while attempting to rob a man and his sister.
According to a police report, at about 02:00 Carl Haynes, who is attached to a private security company, was walking along Second Street, Campbellville, accompanied by his sister Rayon Haynes when they were held up by a man armed with a firearm.
They resisted and the armed man pulled the trigger of his firearm, but the weapon snapped.
Subsequently Haynes pulled out his service firearm and shot the perpetrator.
He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The unlicensed .32 revolver has been recovered by the police as the investigations continue.
