Prisoners of Golden Grove Police Station set fire to lockups

The Guyana Fire Service is at present maintaining a presence at the Golden Grove Police Station, East Bank Demerara after two inmates set fire inside the station cell.

According to persons who spoke with the News Room, a prisoner asked for a cigeratte and was refused same by the police ranks on duty.

That decision apparently angered the prisoner and he set fire inside the cell.

The News Room cannot at this point confirm to what exactly the prisoners set fire.

We will bring you a more comprehensive report on this matter later this evening.
