RK security shot; money bag snatched

Dameon Pears, a 34 year old security guard of Watooka, Linden was shot to the knee and relieved of a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

 

 

The incident took place last evening at approximately 19.30hrs in front of the Demerara Bank at Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara after the security guard, who is attached to the RK Security firm was attempting to make a deposit at the bank.

 

 

Police sources told the News Room that the injured security guard and another guard arrived at the bank with the cash and upon their arrival at the location they saw a car parked a short distance away.

It was while the security exited the vehicle and attempted to walk with the bag of money to the deposit machine that he was approached and shot before being relieved of the bag of cash.

 

 

The gunman had an accomplice and who reportedly focused his attention to the other guard and together they also relieved the men of two 3.2 firearms.

 

 

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed the incident and told the News Room that the security firm arrived at the bank after collecting monies from three different locations in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

 

 

Among the businesses which suffered as a result of the robbery was a Supermarket from which the security company uplifted the funds.

Last year Chief Executive Officer of RK Security, Roshan Khan offered a reward to the public for information that could lead to the recovery of a bag containing several million dollars which was snatched in similar fashion from another one of his cash escort team.

 

 

That incident took place in Georgetown and to date, no one has come forward with any information regarding the incident.

The police investigations are ongoing even as the security guard remains hospitalised.
