People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Members of Parliament last evening (May 25) walked out of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations at the Jubilee Park claiming that adequate seats were not provided for them after they were assured by Minister Nicolette Henry that same would be made for the opposition MPs and their spouses.

Opposition MP and former Education Minister Priya Manickchand in a Social media post said seats were not provided for the opposition MPs except for five seats given to the Leader of the Opposition, Samuel Hinds and three other MPs.

She noted that “while the rest of us were standing there in the passageway for no less than 25 minutes several leaders of the PPP including the leader of the opposition spoke to several ministers including the minister in charge of the event Ms. Nicolette Henry about seating our MPs. Nothing happened.”

She further claimed that this is after they spoke to Henry the day before at parliament and were assured  that arrangements were in place for each MP and spouse to be seated.

Manickchand continued “with deep regret, after we were left standing, we left. This is our 50th year. This shameless and infantile behavior designed to embarrass us is as unacceptable as it is petty and disrespectful and destructive.”

She sent a message to the Government  “You can’t stop us. We are elected office holders.”
