Brandford double as Guyana beat Puerto Rico 4 – 2 to finish 7th

A double from Aroydy Brandford led Guyana to a 4-2 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday in the Pan American Junior Men’s Hockey championship in Toronto, Canada.

 

The victory ensured Guyana finish in seventh spot in the eight-nation tournament. It was also the Guyanese’ first win of the competition after suffering five consecutive defeats.

Brandford scored the final two goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes after the teams were locked 2-2. Andrew Stewart and Hilton Chester also scored for Guyana in the eighth and 51st minutes.

 

Puerto Rico’s goals came off the sticks of Jesus Stewart-Hill in the fourth minute and Eddie Rios Fuentes in the 54th.

 

Guyana had previously lost 7-1 to Chile and Mexico and 8-0 to Canada in the group stage, before going down 12-0 to Argentina and 3-2 to Mexico in the playoffs.
