Hall-Of-Famer and Guyana’s International Football Ambassador, Alex Bunbury, today (June 13) unveiled yet another philanthropic initiative to support the development of sports at the youth and grassroots levels in Guyana.

The Alex Bunbury Sports & Academics Academy (ABSAA) Sporting Goods Collection and Distribution Drive, according to a release, will ensure young Guyanese athletes, are equipped with the right training gear and equipment to optimize preparation and performance in the primary competitive sports of Guyana: cricket, football, basketball, rugby, track and field, cycling, boxing and tennis.

The release states that Bunbury intends to leverage his international fame and contacts to generate ongoing donations of new and gently-used sporting goods via targeted collection and distribution centers strategically located in select international cities such as Brooklyn, Atlanta, Washington DC, Montreal, Toronto, Houston, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Kansas City, London, Lisbon and Madeira.

The donations will be shipped periodically from these global centres to a local centre in Georgetown, Guyana where arrangements will be made for needs-based distribution.

Communities and organizations seeking gear and equipment will be required to complete and submit a request form for review and approval by designated ABSAA officials in Guyana.
