Team Coco’s lead local rider Raynauth ‘Obeah Man’ Jeffrey was in great form today as he carted off the spoils in the Elite Time Trial at the Guyana Cycling Federation’s National Championship.

Contested around the Mahaicony circuit, the national championship once again attracted the country’s leading riders and it was Jeffrey who emerged as the best among the Elite riders at the Time Trial.

It was just the confidence booster the East Coast Demerara needed ahead of tomorrow’s gruelling road race involving the Elite riders in Georgetown.

Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams of the country’s most dominant team- Team Gillette Evolution- finished in second position, followed by Jeffrey’s teammate Jamal John in third spot.

Meanwhile, Time Trial for three other categories was also held today.

Christopher Cornelius of Team Gillette Evolution copped the Junior title, with Andrew Hicks of WS United and Deeraj Garbarran of Team Alanis occupying second and third spots respectively.

Another Team Gillette Evolution rider Stephen Fernandes won the Masters 35-45 division. Hot favourite Junior Niles of Team Coco’s had to settle for second, with Jaikarran Sukhai of Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club third.

The Masters 45-55 category was won by Raymond Newton of Roraima Bikers Club.

Tomorrow the Elite Road Race will be held around the outer circuit of the National Park from 11:00h, and the riders will cover a distance of 75 miles, equivalent to 30 laps.
