Speed and accuracy prevailed over laissez-faire on Wednesday when action continued in the Georgetown leg of the Digicel Nationwide Schools Football tournament at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Sporting white shirts, a pumped up Morgan Learning Centre (MLC) crushed Mae’s 17-0 in a most lopsided contest to move to the next stage of the knockout competition.

While conditions were not perfect, as the ground was soggy owing to a heavy downpour earlier in the day, MLC simply brushed that aside and just focussed on scoring goals at all costs.

It didn’t matter much that their players were constantly on the ground after losing their footing on the damp outfield. Their intention was to score and they did so with alarming consistency.

Leon Richardson, bearing the famous number 10 on his jersey, was a nuisance to Mae’s defence, breaching it on five occasions. He opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and added four other goals in the 28th, 33rd, 54th and 69th minutes.

Orin Moore and Akosi Jarvis netted a double apiece in a show of solid support to Richardson. Moore was on target in the 18th and 70th minutes, while Jarvis scored in the 55th and 67th.

Also getting on the score sheets were Nehemiah Gomes (17th), Osafo Mattheson (22nd), Daniel Nedd (31st), Tariq Nelson (35th), Andre Trotz (40th), Malachi Adonis (49th), Tyrese Rowley (61st) and Tarrel Edwards (68th).

The boys from MLC were clearly superior to their opponents, as they exhibited a higher level of fitness, game awareness and coordination. Mae’s, for their part, must be grateful to their goalkeeper, who pulled off some brilliant saves that prevented the scoreline from bordering on the preposterous.
