Guyana’s four-time Pan Am medallist Priyanna Ramdhani is through to the quarter-finals of the Pan American Junior badminton tournament in Peru.

Playing at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento in Lima, Peru, Priyanna defeated Peru’s top player Adriana Bernales Pinillos, who is much taller than the Guyanese.
The games started out with Priyanna coming back from two points down to level at 3-3, before taking the lead with some tight drop shots and deep cross court smashes. She eventually closed out the set 21-18.

In the second set, she had to maintain her stamina, as the high altitude conditions in Peru forced the Guyanese to exert more energy. Priyanna won the close set 22-20 after they were locked at 20-20. During the set, Pinillos was issued with a yellow card for indiscipline shown against Priyanna.

Another Guyanese, Narayan Ramdhani, made it into the quarter-finals of the Boys Doubles competition, teaming up with Shea Martin to defeat the Mexican pair, Ailton Josue Correa Martinez and Francisco Rafael Trevino Buenrostro.

Narayan and Martin next face Ricky Liuzhou and Cadmus Yeo of the USA in the Boys Doubles, while Priyanna will be up against #2 seed Sharon Au of Canada in the Girls Singles. In the Girls Doubles, Priyanna and Sara Michelle Barrios will next play against #1 seed doubles pair Sharon Au and Rebecca Lee of Canada.
