Women among 18 arrested

Following receipt of information that persons wanted by the police are hiding out across the city, the Police in ‘A’ Division conducted early morning raids in several communities and wards in Georgetown.

 

The raids targeted persons who are suspected of being part of various crimes in and around the city and who might have been eluding the police.

 

According to Divisional Commander, Clifton Hicken, the initiative saw the arrest of six women among eighteen persons who will be placed on an identification parade.

 

The operation which took place in the wee hours of Saturday morning saw the police moving into communities such as East Ruimveldt, West Ruimveldt, Agricola, Layne Avenue, Friendship on the East Bank Demerara and Alexander Village.

 

The police also managed to recover several small quantities of marijuana and other illegal substances during the raids.

 

Once those arrested are cleared of any wrong doing they are expected to be released by Monday afternoon.
