Guyana’s swimming hopes at the Olympics ended earlier today when Jamila Sanmoogan failed to advance past round one of the Women’s 50 metres freestyle in Rio, Brazil.

Swimming in heat five out of 12, Sanmoogan finished sixth out of seven in the heat with a time of 28.88s. The race was won by Faye Husain, who swam under the International Olympic Association, in a time of 26.86s.

In addition, Sanmoogan’s time was the 63rd fastest out of the 88 starters in the event. Guyana will now turn its attention solely to athletics that will see both Brenessa Thompson and Winston George competing in round one of the Women’s 100m and Men’s 400 metres later tonight.
