The Ministry of Education on Friday confirmed that Olato Sam will no longer be functioning in the capacity of Chief Education Officer, “effective immediately.”

In a statement, the Ministry says his contract has ended.

Mr. Sam has served the sector with distinction and zeal for the past eight years, five of which he served as CEO. The Ministry expressed gratitude for his contributions to the Education Sector in Guyana and extends best wishes to him for all future endeavors.

The position for Chief Executive Officer is expected to be advertised shortly with the hope of finding a suitably qualified candidate by the end of September 2016.

It was noticed that Sam was absent from the ministry’s press conference held on Wednesday to announce the results of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Instead, Acting Chief Education Officer (ACEO) Nursery Ingrid Trotman presented the 2016 CSEC results.
