UPDATE; One in Custody for alleged Murder of 14-year-old boy

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 14-year-old Akeem Grimmond of No 61 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, whose body was found in a drain in the same village this afternoon.

 

Grimmond who went missing on Saturday afternoon was found lying in a shallow drain located not too far from the No 61 Burial Ground at approximately 15:00 hrs on Monday by a Community Police Patrol. The Patrol was at the time conducting a search for the boy who left to impound his parents’ cattle in the back-lands two days ago.

 

His body was found with apparent chop and stab wounds.

 

News Room was told that a neighbour who was at the back-lands said he last saw the teenager when he left the back-lands at approximately 17:00 hrs on Saturday,  August 20, 2016.

 

After young Akeem did not return home, his relatives launched a search and also filed a missing person’s report at the 51 Police Station.

 

News Room was told that Akeem’s stepfather, Ryan Persaud told the police that he suspects that the act was committed by a known individual who would normally be in the area to graze his animals daily.

 

Based on this information, the man who is in his early 20’s, Terani Goolsarran was arrested.

 

The step – father of the teenager is calling for a thorough investigation to be done in an effort to bring justice.

 

Parbattie Thakoordial mother of the dead teen who is also eight months pregnant was inconsolable and could not speak with this outlet.
