Dominant day for batsmen in JFL

It was a day for the batsmen on Friday when action in round five of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Jaguars Franchise League Three-day competition started at four venues across the country.

 

Number ten batsman Keyron Fraser blasted a brilliant 120 not out as West Berbice racked up 407-9 at stumps against Upper Demerara/East Bank Demerara at the Enterprise ground.

 

First-Class batsman ended the day six runs short of a hundred as West Demerara closed in Georgetown’s score at the Lusignan ground, while Rajiv Ivan stroked 93 for Upper Corentyne against Essequibo at the Port Mourant ground and East Coast Demerara’s left-hander Chanderpaul Hemraj made 91 against Lower Corentyne at the Albion ground.

 

Also scoring half-centuries were Adrian Dutchin, Avinash Sewkarran and Bhaskar Yadram. Below are the summarised scores from day one.

At Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne declared with their score at 206-9. Skipper Rajiv Ivan stroked 93. He was well supported by Kevlon Anderson, who made 33 playing his first match of the competition. Bowling for Essequibo, Kevin Gordon had 3-41, while Anthony Adams had 3-46. Essequibo closed on 99-4 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul on 21 and Ricardo Adams on one. Eon Hooper has so far taken 2-24.

 

At Lusignan, Georgetown were bowled for 170 after they won the toss and decided to bat first. Andrew Lyght top scored with 47, while Kellon Carmichael supported with 40. Bowling for West Demerara, Rishi Looknauth claimed 4-34, while Romario Shephard took 3-56. West Demerara closed the day on 164-2 with Tagenarine Chanderpaul six runs away from a century (94*) and Akshaya Persaud on 49 not out. Andre Stoll and Gajanan Suknanan have so far taken a wicket each.

 

At Enterprise, West Berbice won the toss and decided to bat. They were led by Keyron Fraser, who scored a century batting at number 10 as he led West Berbice to a formidable 407-9 at the close. He is on 120 not out, while Collis Butts is on 34 not out. Andrew Dutchin earlier made 71, while opener Avinash Sewkarran chipped in with 50. Bowling for East Bank, Steven Jacobs and Arshaad Ali have so far taken 3-99 and 2-39 respectively.

 

At Albion, East Coast Demerara posted 277 all out on the back of Chanderpaul Hemraj’s 91. Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Bhaskar Yadram stroked a composed 71. Lower Corentyne reached 70-1 by stumps with the in-form Jonathan Foo not out on 36 and Surujnarine Kandasammy on 27.
