Young Chanderpaul hits 187 for West Demerara

Tagenarine Chanderpaul struck a magnificent 187 to highlight action on day two of the fifth round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Jaguars Franchise League Three-day tournament on Saturday.

 

His knock ensured West Demerara took a sizeable lead against Georgetown at the Lusignan ground. Below are the summarised scores from the games played.

 

At Lusignan, West Demerara, resuming on 164-2 and just six runs behind Georgetown’s 170, were

dismissed for 357. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, starting the day on 94, made a brilliant 187 to lead the way for the West Side team. Skipper Akshaya Persaud supported well with 72, while there were contributions from Mahendra Dhanpaul (39) and Safraz Esau (21). Bowling for Georgetown, Gajanan Suknanan took 3-89, Andre Stoll had 2-50 and Kellon Karmichael 2-35. Batting a second time, Georgetown reached 74-3 with Christopher Barnwell and Jahron Byron both on seven. Romario Shephard, Keyshram Seyhodan and Richie Looknauth have taken a wicket each. Sunil Singh made 32 and Andrew Lyght Jnr contributed 23.

 

At Port Mourant, Essequibo, resuming on their overnight score of 99-4 in reply to Upper Corentyne’s 206-9 declared, were eventually dismissed for 165. Former West Indies Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul top scored with 55. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Eon Hooper bagged 5-30.

Upper Corentyne, in their second turn at the crease, were then dismissed for 201. Clinton Pestano top scored with 47, Kevlon Anderson made 40, Eon Hooper also made 40 and Jason Sinclair chipped in with 20. Keemo Paul (4), Anthony Adams (3) and Ricardo Adams (2) were the main wicket takers. Essequibo, requiring 243 for victory, closed on 0-1 with Rayon Fredericks the batsman dismissed.

 

At Enterprise, West Berbice declared on their overnight score of 407-9 with Keyron Fraser on 120 not out and Collis Butts 34 not out. East Bank Demerara in their reply, are batting 275-8 with the consistent Danny Narayan scoring 72 and Tevin Imlach made 70. Bowling for West Berbice, Keyron Fraser has so far taken 3-41, while Kevin Jawahir has 3-59.

 

At Albion, the home team, Lower Corentyne were bowled out for 193 in response to East Coast Demerara’s 277. Seon Hetmyer made 54, while Surujnarine Kandasammy and Jonathan Foo contributed 46 and 37 respectively. Bowling for East Coast Demerara, Amir Khan bagged 5-69, while Paul Wintz had 3-44. East Coast Demerara were then pegged back by Lower Corentyne as they claimed seven East Coast Demerara wickets for just 97 runs before close of play. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Kassim Khan has so far taken 3-20, while Royston Crandon has 2-10. Ramnarine Chatura made 23 and Bhaskar Yadram contributed 21 for East Coast Demerara.

 

Sunday is the final day and action will bowl off at 09:30h.
