Miss World Guyana 2016 and One Act Foundation team up to host Mental Health Awareness walk

World Mental Health Day is observed on the October 10 every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness on mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health and Nuriyyih Gerrard in association with the One Act Foundation will be hosting a Mental Health awareness walk under the theme Thrive: Live Without Stigma, tomorrow, Saturday October 8, 2016 in the National Park.

 

Miss Gerrard has chosen to be an advocate for Mental Health with her recently launched THRIVE campaign aimed at promoting social and emotional well-being to the community by encouraging youths and children to maximize their health potential and capacity to cope.

Increasing mental health recovery is also a focus of the campaign.

 

Participants for the walk are being asked to assemble at the parking lot on CARIFESTA Avenue for 6:00 hrs and will engage in a five laps walk along the Fitness Trail to promote THRIVING habits such as exercising and expanding their support networks, which have a direct impact on improving mental well-being.

 

The walk will conclude with remarks by Minister of Public Health Dr. George Norton, Miss World Guyana 2016 and psychologist Dr. Caitlin Viera.

 

The first 200 participants will receive FREE T-shirts and refreshments will be served.
