GCC sweep National Junior Hockey Championship

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) made a clean sweep of the National Junior Indoor Hockey championship, which concluded on Sunday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. The GCC players defeated all forces that came their way, crowning a fruitful weekend for the city-based side.

 

In the Under-16 Boys final, GCC and Hikers played to a nil-all draw, before GCC pipped their opponents 1-0 on penalties. In the third place playoff, Saints Savants edged Phoenix 1-0.

 

In the semi-finals, Hikers got the better of Saints Savants 2-0 and GCC defeated Phoenix 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw.

In the Under-16 Girls final, GCC prevailed 1-0 over Saints Skills, while in the third place playoff, Saints Squibs won 1-0 on penalties against Hikers after a 1-1 draw. In the semi-finals, GCC won 3-0 against Hikers and Saints Skills outplayed Saints Squibs 2-0.

 

In a high-scoring Boys Under-21 final, GCC defeated Hikers 5-3, while Saints overpowered Old Fort 3-0 in the third place game. In the semi-finals, GCC outplayed Saints 3-0 and Hikers topped Old Fort 2-0.

 

In the round-robin Under-21 Girls segment, GCC won both their games, 5-3 against Saints and 3-2 against Old Fort, while Old Fort won one game and Saints failed to win a game.
