UPDATE; Corentyne man remanded for raping 12 year old

A Corentyne man has been remanded to prison for allegedly raping a 12-year-old family member when he appeared at the Whim Magistrates Court on Monday, October 10, 2016.

 

42-year-old Cane Cutter, (name withheld) of Corentyne Berbice was not required to plea to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga.

 

A brief summary of the facts stated that on October 03, 2016 the accused committed the offence while the victim was at home alone.

 

After the matter was reported to the police, the suspect was placed on station bail at Whim Police Station at the sum of $5,000 and was expected to make his first court appearance on October 07, 2016 but failed to do so hence an arrested warrant was issued for him.

 

He was rearrested on Saturday, October 08, 2016 at his home by ranks from the Whim Police Station. It was subsequently disclosed that he was hiding out at his mother’s home at Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne but returned home following reports in the media on the incident.

 

 

The 42-year-old accused is expected to make his next court appearance on November 17, 2016.
