Hope, Powell lead West Indies A to series win
Opener Kyle Hope continued his rich vein of form with a hundred and Rovman Powell turned in a brilliant all-round effort to lead West Indies A to a commanding 109-run win over Sri Lanka A in the second unofficial ODI at the Welagedara Stadium on Thursday.
With the win, West Indies A have sealed the three-match series 2-0 with a game to play on Sunday in Colombo.
The right-handed Hope, who scored 81 in the opening match victory this week, followed up with 107 from 110 balls as West Indies A piled up 347-9 off 50 overs.
Hope’s knock, which included 10 fours and four sixes, formed a 111-run opening partnership with Chadwick Walton, who made 70 (57 balls, 11x4s, 2x6s).
Assad Fudadin then consolidated West Indies A’s position with a breezy 57 off 70 balls (1×4, 2x6s), before the exciting Rovman Powell blazed 52 off 22 balls (2x4s, 6x6s) in the closing stages of the innings.
Shehan Jayasuriya snapped up 4-34 and then made 119 (113 balls, 13x4s, 2x6s), but could not prevent Sri Lanka A from losing, being bowled out in the 43rd over for 238.
Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka made 44 and 32 respectively, as Powell returned to claim 3-44. Kyle Mayers picked up 2-57 and Ronsford Beaton 2-41.
