The body of a 15-year-old student of the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School was at approximately 19:00 hrs on Wednesday fished out of the Tain Canal, Corentyne, Berbice.
News Room understands that Ronaldo Sankar of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice, went to the canal with three of his friends to swim at about 16:00hrs.
According to the adopted sister of the lad, Amanda Dial, the boys related that after emerging from the water, they noticed that Ronaldo was nowhere in sight. They panicked and rushed to his home and informed teen’s mother, Natasha Sankar that they could not find Ronaldo.
The police were subsequently contacted and a search was launched.
They then returned to the scene where some of the boys went into the canal in search of teenager, however, the depth of the water made it difficult for them to locate him.
Eventually, a fishing net was used to capture the body.
The other teenagers were taken into custody for questioning.
He leaves to mourn his two brothers, adopted sister, parents and other relatives and friends.
