Three arrested for possession of narcotics

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force, early this morning arrested two cousins, aged 20 and 36 years, at their Turkeyen’s Apartment with over eighty-seven pounds of compressed cannabis sativa (marijuana).

According to the police, at about 00:30hrs. this morning, ranks acting on information received went to the duo Second Street, Turkeyen Apartment and conducted a search which unearthed twenty-six taped parcels in a bag, hidden in a plastic barrel, in one of the rooms. The item weighed almost forty-four kilograms.

They are likely to appear in court today.

Additionally, a taxi driver is presently in police custody pending charges for possession of narcotics after he was arrested with quantity of marijuana hidden in a toque on Thursday, November 10, 2016.

Conrad Giddings of Fyrish, Corentyne was stopped by ranks at Borlam Public Road after he was seen acting in a suspicious manner.

According to information received, at about 16:00 hours on Thursday police were conducting a stop and search exercise for gun, ammunition, wanted person and narcotics when the suspect was searched and a black plastic bag was found in a toque the suspect was wearing at the time.

The bag was opened in his presence and a quantity of leave, seeds and stems were found suspected to be cannabis. Following questioning, he was arrested and taken to the Albion Police Station where the items were weighed in his presence and amounted  150 grams.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
