Soldier among five arrested with marijuana in Berbice

A soldier is among five other persons who were arrested with a quantity of marijuana while they were making their way to Georgetown on Wednesday, November 16,2016.

News Room understands that at about 12:30 hours yesterday ranks from the Traffic department of the Fort Wellington Police Station were on mobile patrol when one of the officers received a tip-off and proceeded to stop motor car HC 7077 which was driving east along the Bath Settlement Public Road.

At the time the motor car had five occupants who were identified as soldier 22 year old Lennox Williams of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, 52 year old Corraine Hope of Angoy’s Avenue New Amsterdam, 18 year old Shaniza Hope of Angoy’s Avenue New Amsterdam, 22 year old William Lyken of Canedield Canje and Hore Car driver 25 year old Jamal Arjune of Mount Sinai, West Canje, Berbice.

News Room was informed that during the search a transparent bag was found behind the front passenger seat between the legs of Lennox William.

The bag was opened in the presence of all the occupants of the car and a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana were found.

The ranks questioned the passengers as to who owned the bag and was told that it belong to Lennox Williams who denied that it was his. The occupants were then escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station where the items were weighed and amounted to 495 grams.

They five suspects were told of the offence committed and arrested and placed into custody pending charges.

Investigations are ongoing.
