Jagdeo leads PPP’s internal elections 100 votes ahead of Anthony

Presenting the results for the People’s Progressive Party’s elections at the 31st Delegates and Observers Congress was Head of the Credentials Committee, Robeson Benn.

According to results released by online news agency Citizens Report, the Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo secured his victory with a lead of almost 100 votes ahead of the second place winner, Dr. Frank Anthony, while the party’s Chief Whip, Gail Teixeira secured third with some 37 votes separating her from the third sport, former President Donald Ramotar came in fourth.

Internal elections were held for 35 Central Committee members. Voting was also done for five non-voting members. According to results released earlier today (Monday December 19, 2017) there was a tie for the fifth spot, which is to be sorted out by the new Central Committee.

New candidate members include Ramkarran Kissoon, Edward Casimero, Vania Albert and Jagnarine Somwar, while Fidel John and Humace Oodit tied for the fifth place.

The top-10 voted into the Central Committee include:

  2. Dr. Frank Anthony
  3. Gail Teixeira
  4. Donald Ramotar
  5. Anil Nandlall
  6. Clement Rohee
  7. Ganga Persaud
  8. Irfaan Ali
  9. Zulfikar Mustapha
  10. Shyam Nokta

The PPP’s 31st Congress concludes today and was held under the theme: ‘Strengthen the Party; Defend Democracy; Onwards to Victory.’ It was held at the Cotton Field Secondary School, Essequibo Coast.
