The two bandits who were killed last evening by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have been identified.
According to the police, on Monday, one of the men has been identified as a 22-year-old fish cleaner, Jamal Letlow a/k ‘Gaza’, of John Fernandes Squatting Area, Georgetown.
It was disclosed that Letlow was also wanted by the police for armed robbery committed on Christopher Persaud, at John Fernandes Access Road, on October 25 last.
The second perpetrator was identified as another 22-year-old of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D) and Lot 153 Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown; Shaquille Fraser. Fraser was a mason.
The two men were shot to the forehead and the eye respectively by the police after they robbed a group of persons who were celebrating a reunion at 53 Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
The shooting took place after the duo was chased by a police patrol and sought refuge in the Campbellville School compound.
News Room previously reported that the men walked into the yard of the victims and managed to take five mobile phones, one silver necklace, a gold necklace and $520 Guyana dollars along with an undisclosed amount of US currency. They were subsequently chased by intoxicated persons at the gathering who noticed a police patrol in the area and informed them of the incident. This led to the police taking over the chase and cornering the victims in the School compound.
One .38revolver and one spent shell were recovered along with five live matching rounds.
The two bandits died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
