Department of Housing rakes in $590M in payments under Jubilee Payment Plan

Some 2881 applications were received by the Department of Housing in 2016 under the Jubilee Payment Plan. This was disclosed today (Tuesday January 10, 2017) by Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Patterson.

Of that total some 7 were from the very low income bracket which attracted a payment of $59,000 per house lot; 215 from the low income bracket paying between $92,000 to $150,000 per lot; 524 from moderate income paying $150,000 to $500,000; 1, 440 applications were from the middle income bracket paying between $500,000 to $1.2M per house lot; and695 persons fell under the high income paying $1.2M and above.

According to the Minister these applicants received a total of $590M in discounts under this plan.

In recognition of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary Year of Independence, the Ministry’s Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA) also announced the distribution of 300 Home Improvement Subsidies.

The programme offered beneficiaries a maximum of $50,000 worth in building materials, redeemable via vouchers, to effect approved improvement works to their existing basic building.

Beneficiaries were drawn from Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10.

As it relates to the turnkey homes at Perseverance, EBD, a total of 90 existing houses were completed and remedial works were completed on 70 houses with 160 families benefiting. However, no new houses were constructed.

In addition, the Minister said a major challenge for the Ministry remains the transfer of lands from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), through the CH&PA.
