After close to sixteen months of engaging the courts, Former Director of Prison, Welton Trotz will today (Tuesday, January 10, 2017) know his fate in that sexual assault charge which was brought against him back in 2015.

Trotz was accused of sexually assaulting a female junior rank who approached him for a favour in early 2015, during his time as Director of Prison. The woman reportedly rejected his advances and claimed that she was subsequently being victimised on the job.

Trotz pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on October 22, 2015. He was charged with the offence and placed on $100, 000 bail.

Today, (Tuesday, January 10, 2017) he slated to appear in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 5.

Prior to the matter being brought before the court, Trotz only had a few months remaining on the job. He was asked by the Public Security minister, Khemraj Ramjattan to step down from his post in light of the allegations.

Trotz did indicate to journalists back in 2015 that he was going to challenge the charges which he referred to as trumped-up and orchestrated by some persons within and outside of the Prison Service who claimed wanted him out of the system.
