Georgetown Football Club (GFC) winger, Kelsey Benjamin, has been taken on the Caledonia roster for the TT Pro League. Caledonia, who first sent the skilful winger to Maloney FC in the lower division of the Eastern FA, has decided that Benjamin is now ready to play at the Pro League level.

“Kelsey is a really talented kid and many of the senior players have encouraged us to promote him into the first team,” Morvant Caledonia United Head Coach Rajesh Latchoo said. “He has the potential to reach very far once his attitude and commitment matches his talent, I think he will become a top player.”

GFC Manager, Faizal Khan, said the Kelsey Benjamin move is the first of a very methodical arrangement with exposing Guyana’s talent.

“We plan to place three other lads in the Caledonia set up, let them learn to become professionals and once they can fulfil their potential in Trinidad the sky is the limit for these players,” Khan added.

Meanwhile, Khan is also busy making arrangements for senior team striker Sheldon Holder to go Finland for trials. GFC, on Monday, issued a press statement on Monday on Benjamin’s move.

“Kelsey is on the right way to playing professional football for a long time to come after doing very well the past 18 months for both GFC and his school (whom GFC are strategically aligned) Chase Academy.

GFC continues to scout, coach, give first team game time, develop and market Guyana’s most dedicated talented young footballers.

The club has focuses on developing the best young football players win, lose or draw. It is fair to say that GFC is once again Guyana’s premier youth development football club. Stayed tuned for more fantastic news coming from the GFC camp this month.

GFC would like to take this opportunity to thank our first team sponsors for helping this deal become a reality. This includes financing of airline flights, boots and equipment for Kelsey to go on this pro trial which has now resulted in a professional contract for the teenager.

This was helped to be made possible by continued partnership support from DeSinco Trading under their brands Moo Milk and V8 Splash.

We also thank Sambora Communications for their continued financial support to the GFC football teams. We also thank our entire first team staff headed by our Brazilian Head Coach, Fabiano Agrippino, who has been instrumental in coaching Kelsey and the entire first team group.”
