Guyana Jaguars’ chances of winning a regional 50-over title for the first time since 2005 took a serious bashing on Tuesday evening when they slumped to an embarrassing 145-run loss to Barbados Pride at the Kensington Oval.

Playing in match two of the Super50, Barbados Pride racked up 302-7 and then ripped through Guyana Jaguars’ batting, which folded for 157 in just 32 overs in the day/night encounter.

West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite led Barbados Pride’s batting effort with a fine 101, while Jonathon Carter chipped in with a robust 75 off 62 balls. Bowling for Guyana Jaguars, spinners Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul took 2-65 and 2-56 respectively.

Guyana Jaguars, missing the injured Shivnarine Chanderpaul, never recovered from the early loss of opener Shimron Hetmyer without scoring, as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Leon Johnson’s 55 apart, no other batsman got past Assad Fudadin’s 18 in a dismal batting display. Rajendra Chandrika (10), Jonathon Foo (8), Anthony Bramble (8), Raymon Reifer (16), Steven Jacobs (11), Permaul (16), Bishoo (1) were the other batsmen dismissed, as Ronsford Beaton was left not out on zero.

Spin twins Sulieman Benn and Ashley Nurse combined for eight wickets. Left-armer Benn had 4-35 off six overs, while Nurse claimed 4-42 off 10. Skipper Jason Holder took the other two wickets for 15 runs off five overs. Apart from full points for the victory, Barbados Pride also picked up a bonus point.
