Smart City Solutions erred, VAT should only be applied on geo-cards says Jordan

Finance Minister Winston Jordan says the fact that Value Added Tax (VAT) is being charged on both the Parking Meter fee and the geo-cards is an error on the part of Smart City Solutions (SCS).

This afternoon in the National Assembly Opposition Chief Whip, Gail Teixeira had pointed out this “double whammy” which Guyanese motorists would have to endure.

However, bringing clarity to the House Minister Jordan said SCS erred, hence the VAT should only be charged on the geo-cards, as is the case with telephone cards.

The Opposition Chief Whip had earlier argued that the customers were not initially informed that VAT would be charged on the $200 per hour for parking and more so the double taxation.
