A policeman was killed last night (Monday, January 30, 2017) after the boat in which he was travelling sank in the Ekereku river in Region 7.
The News Room has been informed that the police, Corporal, Bartholomew Belgrave and another police rank were patrolling in the Mazaruni District when the tragedy occurred.
Another policeman who was also in the boat along with the captain managed to make it to safety. The captain is a civilian.
The body of the rank was recovered from the Mazaruni River this morning (Tuesday, January 31, 2017).
Corporal Belgrave is said to be 29 years old and originally hails from the Region but has been living at Itaballi.
Divisional Commander, Senior Superintendent, Ravindradat Boodram and a team of police today (Tuesday, January 31, 2017) visited the relatives of the deceased.
The investigations are ongoing.
