Defending champions of the Limacol Football Tournament, Milerock, started their title defence on a positive note with a win 2-1 against Northern Rangers on Saturday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

Fast-paced action was the order of the night as the Linden-based defending champions showcased their superiority over the Northern Rangers. Milerock showcase how dangerous of a scoring side they can be practically sealing the win in the first half. Troy Lewis struck in the 10th minute of the match with a hard shot that rocked the net.

Milerock further separated themselves from Northern Rangers when Akeem Green struck what seemed like a demoralising blow just on the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute. Devon Johnson would score in the 90th+1 minute of the match to give the Northers Rangers some pride to take away from the match.

Meanwhile, another Linden-based team was in winner’s row on Saturday evening with Winner’s Connection topping Grove Hi Tech 3-1. Grove Hi Tech simply had no chance with Winners Connection scoring the first three goals in the match.

Gary Thompson opened the scoring the 13th minute, while Sedric Hunte and Rawle Gittens followed suit with goals of their own in the 32nd and 69th minutes respectively as the Linden side displayed some sweet passing skills. Kevin Padmore scored a consolation goal for Grove in the 78th minute.

The tournament continued on Monday evening at the Georgetown Football Club ground with two matches where Winner’s Connection will play Northern Rangers and the Guyana Police Force will battle Camptown.
