The 2017 Mashramani parade will commence from Church Street and Avenue of the Republic along the western carriageway, turning east onto Brickdam and proceeding to Durban Park.

This was disclosed during a Press Conference today (Friday, February 3, 2017).

According to Coordinator, Lennox Canterbury, the western carriageway along the Avenue of the Republic was chosen to allow large floats to maneuvre the turns.

Additionally, while the Children’s parade will be hosted earlier on February 11, from Parade Ground to National Park, it will be included in the adult parade from Parliament Buildings and proceed along Brickdam to the Durban Park.

Canterbury said this decision was taken following concerns raised about persons not being able to view the Children’s parade on its traditional timing.

At Durban park, the bands will be entering from the south-western gate which is nearest to Hadfield Street, after which the parade will “go right around” and exit onto Homestretch.

The Mash Coordinator also told media operatives that “we have outgrown the National Park”, therefore the reason for the change of venue.

Minister with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, Nicolette Henry says Linden and New Amsterdam will also be hosting the Mashramani parade on the said day.

In relation to vending, it was disclosed that the cost ranges from $10,000 for a 10×10 spot to more for larger spots. However, the almost all spots have been occupied, the Minister said.

It was also clarified that Vendors who usually ply their trade along the route will not be required to pay.
