New GPHC board appointed by cabinet

Members of the new Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) board were today announced by Public health Minister Volda Lawrence.

The board will be chaired by Kessaundra Alves with Dr. Holly Alexander, Dr. Ivelaw Sinclair, Collette Adams, Sonya Roopnauth, Cleopatra Barkoey and Kempton Alexander as members.

According to the Minister, the chairperson possesses a Bachelor’s of Law Degree, Certificate in Legal Law, Masters of Law Degree from Dalhousie School of Law where she specialized in Health Law, Ethics and policy. She also completed an interdisciplinary programme involving Medicine, Human Rights, Law and Politics related to Public Health.

Dr. Ivelaw Sinclair is presently attached to the Fort Wellington Hospital in Berbice. With several years of experience in the Public Health Sector, Dr. Holly Alexander, holds diplomas in Public Management, Leprology, Education, and a Masters In Public Health.

Permanent secretary Collette Adams sits on the board representing the Public Health Ministry; Finance Ministry Budget Director Sonya Roopnauth for the Finance Ministry; Cleopatra Barkoey for the Nursing Council; and Kempton Alexander for the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU).

The appointment of the members of the board was approved by the cabinet and took effect on February 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018-one year.
