One arrested for the execution of Corentyne woman

The Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Corentyne domestic worker who was shot at close range during an attempted robbery at her home yesterday (Tuesday, February 07, 2017).

Dead is 45-year-old Lilawattie Mohamed of Tain Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice.

The home where the incident occurred

According to information reaching the News Room, at about 11:45 hours on Tuesday, two men armed with a gun jumped the fence surrounding Mohamed’s yard and proceeded to climb the stairs of her home. The men began banging the door to the home.

At the time, only the woman and her son were in the building and fearing for their lives, they started bracing the door from the inside.

However, the bandits managed to overpower them and entered the home demanding cash.

o money, the bandit pulled the trigger killing the woman instantly while her son was told to lay face down on the floor.

News Room was told that after committing the crime, the men made good their escape, firing a shot in the air in the process.

The police were called in moments later after which the woman was rushed the woman to the hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.

When contacted, commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam confirmed that one man has been arrested and is assisting with investigations.
