Father of four killed during robbery

A phone card vendor was this afternoon (Wednesday, February 08, 2017) shot and killed during a robbery at Adventure on the Corentyne, several houses away from the Felix Austin Police College.

The 35-year-old man, Danian Anthony Jagdeo of Williamsburg Village, Corentyne Berbice was killed by a lone gunman at about 15:45 hours.

News Room understands that Jagdeo who is a father of four, was at the time dropping off phone cards at a shop, which he does every Wednesday when the gunman pounced on him. The ordeal lasted for several minutes.

Joel Soman who is the owner of the shop where the shooting took place told the News Room Jagdeo had just visited his shop and was transacting business with his wife when a lone gunman arrived on a motor cycle, entered the shop and pointed the gun towards Jagdeo demanding cash.

News Room was told that at the time of the incident Jagdeo had a haversack which the gunman took before shooting him and escaping on his motor cycle.

The abandoned motorcycle recovered by police

After the police were called in, they conducted a search and found the motor cycle which the gunman used abandoned at friendship village, further up the Corentyne. The motorcycle was bearing a fake registration number.

Commander of B’’ Division Ian Amsterdam disclosed they ranks are presently combing the area to apprehend the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing.
