Five persons including children are now homeless after their Agricola home went up in flames this afternoon (Thursday, February 09, 2017).

The fire started just after 16:00hrs and it took the fire service approximately 10 mins to get to the location because of the traffic on the roadways. This according to Divisional Fire Officer, Compton Sparman, along with high winds at the time caused the home to be completely destroyed.

Two other homes were saved from destruction but were scorched as a result of the flames and heat.

Meanwhile, the News Room has been able to confirm that a lumber yard on the East Coast of Demerara is on fire.

Our team is heading to that location to bring you a report on that development.
