11-year-old student allegedly commits suicide

The death of an 11-year-old female student of the St Therese’s Primary School in New Amsterdam has left many shocked after they learned that she allegedly committed suicide.

11 year old Trishanna King reportedly died after ingesting a poisonous substance earlier on Monday at her parent’s home in East Canje Berbice. She also resides with her grandparent in New Amsterdam.

News Room understands that King who is preparing to sit the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) was at home with her mother and at about 05:00 hours, she started vomiting profusely and complaining of pain in her abdomen.

According to a senior officer in ‘B’ Division, the 11-year-old was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she was being treated. However, she died before midday today (Monday, February 13, 2017) as doctors at the institution battled to save her live.

The News Room was told that before her demise, the girl told doctors that she had ingested a poisonous substance.

While the family is not in a position to speak with the media, the News Room was informed that on Friday, February 10, 2017, the young girl had an argument which led to a fight with another female student at her school and was told by the head teacher to return to school today (Monday, February 13, 2017) with her parent.

The News Room was told that the deceased and the other female student were fighting over a male classmate. However, the police in B division are still conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
