The first edition of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Under-17 cricket tournament organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s (RHTY&SC) Cricket Development Committee will bowl off on Saturday with matches scheduled across the Ancient County.

The tournament will involve 17 teams, namely Bush Lot, Bush Lot United, Blairmont A, Blairmont B, Tucber Park, Young Warriors A, Young Warriors B, Number 19 Kendall Union, Toopoo, Tamarind Root, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Big Star, Rose Hall Town Metro Females, Number 72 Cut and Load, Number 73, Scotsburg and Skeldon.

The tournament will be played on a knockout basis and 40 overs per side, starting at 11:00h sharp. Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, stated that the tournament forms part of the RHTY&SC plans for junior cricketers in Berbice to get them involve in playing the game at the competitive level.

With the Berbice Cricket Board not able to fully operate due to a court injunction, clubs have been starved of competitive matches. Clubs are reminded that players have to be born on or after the 1st September, 2000, and that walkovers would be granted to opposing teams 30 minutes after the scheduled start time of 11:00h.

The RHTY&SC would also like to inform the 17 teams that no form of indiscipline would be tolerated and that all decisions of the Umpires are final. The winning team will receive $40,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up would carry home $20,000.00 and a trophy. The Man-of-the-Final along with the tournament’s best batsman and bowler would receive special prizes.
