A 16-year-old male is in the custody of the police for allegedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old school girl.
The incident occurred between January 2015 and January 2016 at a house in West Canje, East Bank Berbice (E.B.B.)
This was confirmed by Commander of ‘B’ Division Ian Amsterdam who noted that the teen was arrested this morning (Wednesday, February 22, 2017) and is in custody pending charges.
The News Room was reliably informed that the child who lives with her mother would usually visit her grandfather’s home next door to spend time with him.
It was at her grandfather’s home the teen became known to the child since he also resides in the same area and frequents the grandfather’s home. It is alleged that he would usually invite the 8-year-old to the back of the house where he would play with her private part.
However, the incident only came to light yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, February 21, 2017) following a conversation between the child and her class teacher.
