GWI Inks €552,855 contract with Dutch Firm for drilling of three Wells

Three new wells will be built at Diamond, Sophia and Sparendaam, Region 4 as a result of a contract signed between the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and De Ruiter Doringen – a Dutch well drilling firm to the tune of € 552,855.

De Ruiter Doringen will be working alongside Rook South America – another Dutch company specialized in well development and regeneration.

According to GWI, drilling is scheduled to commence in June 2017 and be completed within 12 weeks.

GWI’s Managing Director, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles highlighted the need for Guyanese contractors to be updated and exposed to new drilling technologies. In this regard, he explained that the company awarded to execute the works has given its commitment work with local contractors.

Managing Director of De Ruiter Doringen, Mr. Frans Heinis said his company, which has more than 15 years’ experience in the Netherlands and 10 years’ in Suriname, will be employing technologies that have been tested and proven. He is hopeful that this undertaking will influence the procedure for well drilling in Guyana.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Rook South America, Mr. Martin Bloemscheer, whose company has similar experience, said his aim is to assist with the refurbishing and teaching of well rehabilitation.
