Female student in custody after caught with 93 grams of marijuana

A 16-year-old female student from New Amsterdam is in police custody pending charges after she was caught with a quantity of marijuana on Wednesday, March 01, 2017.

News Room understands that the police in Berbice acting on information received went to an abandoned house in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam where they saw the teen acting in a suspicious manner.

According to a police source, the teen was seen making her way down a stairway. Upon noticing the ranks, she ran back into the building to join a male who has since been identified as 20-year-old Sherwin Thomas. Thomas of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue is well known to the police but managed to escape.

The News Room was told that a search was conducted on the house in the presence of the teenager and ranks who found a white and black plastic container on a table in the hallway. A Further search revealed that the container had a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

The teen was told of the offence committed and taken to the Central Police Station where the items were weighed in her presence and amounted to 93 grams. She is presently in police custody pending charges while ranks are hunting for the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing.
