CM Wendell Meusa played unbeaten to win the Trophy Stall FIDE Rapid one day Chess tournament recently at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.
Meusa is known as the strongest Blitz player in Guyana with a rating points of 2047, and he showed no mercy on his opponents, with his toughest challenge coming from CM Anthony Drayton. Drayton copped the second place prize with his only loss against Meusa. Chino Chung took the final podium position with five points with losses against Drayton and Davion Mars.
The final points standings read: CM Wendell Meusa (7), CM Anthony Drayton (6), Chino Chung (5), Junior Champion Saeed Ali, Davion Mars, WFM Maria Varona-Thomas Andre Jagnandan and Joshua Gopaul (4 each), Roberto Neto 3.5, Nelisha and Waveney Johnson, Jayden Taylor, Akili Theophil, Sophia Singh and Joshua Singh (3 each), while Rashad Hussain and Isaiah Mcalman finished on 2.5 and one point respectively.
The Guyana Chess Federation has expressed gratitude to sponsors, the Trophy Stall and the National Sports Commission, for making the tournament possible.
