Former Head of the Guyana Defence Force (G.D.F) Rear Admiral, Gary Best is to be questioned by detectives from the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) in relation to the Pradoville 2 investigation.
Today (Wednesday, March 08, 2017), Commissioner of Police acting, David Ramnarine told the News Room that he was unable to confirm if the former Army Head is among those to be questioned but he is aware that the probe continues into the sale of lots at Pradoville 2; a gated community located in Sparendaam on the East Coast of Demerara.
Geary Best who served in the GDF as a Coast Guard and later Chief-of-Staff, was one of the persons who secured land space at the Sparendaam location under the presidency of Bharrat Jagdeo.
However, the News Room was unable to confirm if Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack was also called in for questioning since she also owns a plot of land in the community.
On Wednesday, Best who retired from the army for a number of years ago serves the Government of Guyana in the capacity of Advisory to the President on the Environment.
Contacted today, Best told the News Room that he was contacted by SOCU in relation to the ongoing probe and is slated to meet with the detectives on Friday march, 10, 2017.
Today (Wednesday, March 08, 2017), several former Ministers of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic were questioned by the detectives at SOCU. Those persons were Priya Manickchand, Former Minister of Education, Irfaan Ali, Former Minister of Housing, Shaik Baksh former Minister of Housing, Nanda Gopaul, Former Minister of Labour, Clement Rohee, Former Minister of Home Affairs and Jennifer Westford, Former Minister of Public Service.
All the above mentioned showed up at the SOCU head office voluntarily.
This is one day after Former President Bharrat Jagdeo and Former Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon were arrested after declining invitations by representatives of SOCU to visit the office and be questioned there.
Other persons were also questioned yesterday (Tuesday, March 07, 2o17) including PSC’s Ramesh Dookhoo, Former Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud and the daughter of Former President Donald Ramotar, Lisaveta Ramotar.
