Three arrested for stealing $460,000 cash from Corentyne Pharmacy

The Police in Berbice have arrested three persons including a 16 year old in connection with an early morning robbery committed on a Pharmacy at Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne on Tuesday March 07, 2017.

The three men arrested are 34 year old, Avenash Budhoo of Free Yard, Port Mourant, 37 year old, Sia Jagnarine of Rose Hall Town and a 16 year old of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to information received, on Monday evening, 45 year old Bhigroog Poonai secured his pharmacy which is located on the lower flat of his home and went to bed. However, at about 06:05 hours on Tuesday morning he made checks on his business and discovered that the building was broken into.

News Room was told that three padlocks on the main door which is used to gain entry into the pharmacy were wrenched off and left on the floor.

After suspecting that something was amiss he made further checks and observed that a drawer used to store cash was tampered with and the $460,000 that was left there the night before was removed.

The Police have since been notified and during their investigation managed to secure several fingerprints from various part of the premises.

The News Room was told that ranks also questioned several persons in the area in connection with the incident but nothing useful was provided. Later that day, the Police managed to arrest three persons who were picked up at several locations on the Corentyne.

They are presently at the Rose Hall Police Outpost assisting with investigations.
