Teenager killed at road construction site

Yesterday afternoon, (Thursday, March 09, 2017), 17-year-old Ricardo Edwards who was riding a pedal cycle was killed after he collided with a road construction vehicle at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
Senior Police sources in ‘D’ Division have confirmed the incident.
According to information received, the young man was heading east along the roadway when a heavy duty vehicle which is working on a section of the road that is under construction, attempted to manoeuvre on the roadway when the two collided.
Edwards fell to the ground and received injuries to his head and other parts of the body. He was quickly picked up and rushed to a hospital in the Region but later succumbed.
The police have since taken the driver of the road building machinery into custody for questioning.
Last evening the lawyer who is representing the driver was present at the Leonora Police Station in discussion with his client and the police in that division regarding the incident.
The investigations are ongoing.
