A shooting this morning (Sunday, March 12, 2017) at the La Penitence Market in Georgetown, has landed a taxi driver in the hospital and the police rank under close arrest.
News Room was told that the name of the Taxi Driver as Kenneth Hoyte. He is 49 years old and resides at Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown.
The police who has since been taken into close arrest has been identified as Corporal Morris Williams.
According to initial reports, the Corporal was at the Market when he was attacked by two bandits who managed to snatch his gold chain. The rank then discharged his weapon in their direction, causing them to drop the chain while returning fire.
Hoyte who was a passerby was shot during the incident.
The bandits managed to escape on their bicycles.
The police have recovered several spent shells from the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
