An ex-soldier was on Friday charged with the rape of a teen girl, which allegedly occurred earlier this year at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Camp Stephenson.

Winston Haynes appeared before Magistrate, Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He was represented by Attorney-at-law, Dexter Todd.

News Room previously reported that Haynes along with three Privates from the GDF were dismissed from the job for bringing the law enforcement body into disrepute.

Allegations are the ranks engaged in sexual activity with a Timehri young lady without her consent at Camp Stephenson base on January 28, 2017. A Board of Inquiry which was set up by the GDF found that it was the corporal who had sex with the young lady against her will, while the three privates failed to stop the incident.

Chief-of-Staff of the GDF, Patrick West told the News Room that by their dismissal, the men have lost their benefits accumulated while serving in the Guyana Defence Force.

Haynes was granted $600,000 bail and will return to court on March 27.
