Corentyne farmer busted with marijuana in chicken coop

The Police in Berbice have arrested a cash crop farmer after a quantity of marijuana was found in a chicken coop located several feet away from his home.

23-year-old Aeron Jaimangal of lot 2455 Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday, March 18, 2017.

According to information received, a party of police officers acting on information they received, went to the home of the suspect and conducted a search.

They then observed a bulky black plastic bag in a chicken coop a short distance away from the home.

After noticing that Jaimangal was acting in a suspicious manner, the ranks retrieved the bag which was open and found that it contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

The News Room was informed that Jaimangal was told of the offence committed and he denied having knowledge of the drugs. Nevertheless, he was cautioned about the offence and taken to the Whim Police Station where the items were weighed in his presence and amounted to 370 grams.

He is presently in police custody pending charges.
