The Petra Futsal tournament had its first night of group action on Tuesday after two nights of elimination rounds where 24 teams were cut down to 12.  Night one of the group action at the National Gymnasium had a lot of close games with teams showcasing a high level of competitive play.

Sparta Boss scraped ahead of Agricola Champion Boys with a 1-0 win that was a tough game for both teams. However, Devon Millington’s goal in the 20th minute of the match would be enough for the win. North East La Penitence pulled off a 2-1 comeback win over Tucville in game that was fast paced from the beginning.

Tucville struck first in the ninth minute through Dennis Edwards, but North East, who took some time to find their footing, replied with two goals from Omallo Williams in the 17th and 27th minutes. Meanwhile, Sophia recorded the largest margin of victory for the night with a 4-0 win against Albouystown.

Dwayne Lowe led the way with goals in the fifth and 16th minutes, while Sheik Kamal and Desmond Cottam chipped in with goals in the sixth and 12th minutes respectively. West Front Road- Goal is Money had a good showing as well with a 3-0 against West Back Road.

West Front Road played with great chemistry, which resulted in three different scorers in the match as Jamal Pedro in the 11th, Roy Cassou in the 12th and Carl Tudor in the 22nd scored for West Front Road.

Meanwhile, the other two matches in the night’s action between Tiger Bay and Back Circle and defending champs Bent Street and Broad Street Bullies ended in a two-all draw in both matches.

Action in the tournament will continue this Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium from 19:00h.
