A 21-year-old man was remanded to prison for stabbing his 18-year-old brother to death over a motorcycle.

Gopaul Sewsankar of Yakusari, North Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, appeared at the Whim Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, March 23, 2017) where he was not required to plead to the charge.

Dead; 18-year-old Vishaul Zakaroo

Sewsankar appeared before Charlyn Artiga for the murder of his brother which occurred on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

The Court heard that on the day in question, the 21-year-old stabbed his brother, 18-year-old Vishaul Zakaroo also called ‘Daniel’ after he refused to lend him a motorcycle.

It is alleged that Daniel who was a mechanic, was imbibing with some friends at about 23:00 hours on Sunday when he was approached by Sewsankar who requested to borrow his motorcycle. The now deceased 18-year-old refused, and this led to an altercation.

News Room was told that the suspect pulled out a knife he had on his possession and dealt his teenage brother a single stab wound to his stomach and walked away. He returned minutes later and kicked his brother who was lying on the ground.

At this time, the teen was picked up and rushed to the Mibicuri Public Hospital where he was treated and later succumbed.

The suspect was subsequently arrested, and the alleged murder weapon was recovered by investigators.

A post mortem examination was done on the victim’s body yesterday which indicated that he died as a result of shock and haemorrhage.

Sewsankar is expected to return on May 16, 2017, to the Mibicuri Magistrates’ Court where the Preliminary Inquiry will begin.
